Drugstore Discovery: Revlon Photoready Cream Blushes

I love Revlon products, and they are hands down my favorite drugstore makeup brand because they offer so much in their range that are truly long lasting and have great pigmentation. I’ve had my eye on these babies for quite some time and had such a difficult time finding them. But lo and behold I went to an Ulta and found the last of each of the shades I wanted: Coral Reef and Flushed, they did have a natural shade but I felt like that wouldn’t show up well on my skin tone so I skipped that one.

From left to right: Flushed and Coral Reef

Flushed and Coral Reef

Here’s my take on cream blushes, they don’t usually work well on me. I’ve had my share of some from brands like MAC and NYX but they would slip and slide and wouldn’t last on me. But I heard some amazing reviews on this and decided to give them a try. And I am so happy I did!

One word: WOW! When I first swatched these I noticed right away that although it was a cream product it had a very satin finish which makes blending out the color really easy and allows layering the color to be flawless. These swatches are of course with nothing underneath it, and you can already tell how amazingly pigmented these are!

What is great about cream products is that they are versatile, as a makeup artist you have to think outside of the box especially when it comes to your kit and what products to throw in their on a job. Now I haven’t tried this but I can imagine it would work. Cream blushes would work well as a lip color, just as lip color would be a great alternative to cream blush. Now don’t call me crazy until you try it, but I can tell that if you just use a lip brush and layer this on your lips it’ll create a beautiful color.

These do blend out easily, which I adore, and set nicely. It would be nice to use under a powder blush or even on it’s own. I haven’t experienced any slipping or sliding with these products with or without a powder blush on top which makes me extremely pleased!

I would definitely give these a go if you haven’t tried these yet. They are perfect for makeup beginners or pros because of the ability to layer to the desired color intensity you would like.

Let me know if you have tried these or wish to, or even what look you’d use with these babies. I’m not sure about the availability of these, whether or not they are limited edition, but I did recently find them at an Ulta and even saw them at a CVS near by.

Swatches | Sugarpill Limited Edition “@#$%!”

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I’m always impressed with Amy’s (aka Shrinkle) Sugarpill eyeshadows. For one the color range is amazing, and second the pigmentation is perfection.

If any of you went to IMATS LA this past June, you must have stood in the worth-the-wait line of the Sugarpill booth. I was so giddy, I nearly died of excitement nearing the booth because of how colorful and lively the girls were. One eyeshadow in particular caught my eye the most, it’s called “@#$%!” and how exactly you pronounce that, I have no clue! BUT, when I did ask for it, the salesladies just referred to it as the “limited edition” eyeshadow. And well, there ya go! It is LIMITED EDITION, which meant… yes, I had to get it for that reason. And another reason was because it was exclusive to IMATS only! How exciting is that? Yeah, pretty darn exciting.. I know. I didn’t even need to swatch it to know I wanted it.

@#$%! is a cool toned berry red with silver microglitters/shimmer that actually stay when swatched and applied/blended with a brush (WOW!). The texture is perfect, it’s not gritty as you’d imagine with the fine glitters and it feels like butter… so smooth.

As soon as I took this bad boy home, I noticed it looked familiar to another color I just picked up from Sugarpill, called Love+, the bright vibrant red available on its own or in the Burning Heart palette.

But long behold, no two eyeshadows are ever the same (unless you really have two of the same eyeshadows!).

Here is Love+

And here is @#$%!

As you can see, Love+ is a lovely primary red. It’s just RED. True to color, red. It’s matte with no shimmers and has a similar smooth texture when swatched and applied.

Here is Love+ on the left and @#$%! on the right.

Now, I love these colors! I’m not one to sport the red everyday on my eyes, but hey I like options. I do not own any other red eyeshadows so I cannot compare these to any brands or other products, but as far as these go, I really like them! Normally Sugarpill eyeshadows retail for $12 but at IMATS I got @#$%! for only $8.40 and Love+ was in a palette I got for $24! Such a steal!

I am not exactly sure about the availability of @#$%!, whether it is only an exclusive to the LA IMATS or if it will go to the others, or even if it will be released in the near future. But I really do enjoy the color. Did you miss out? Probably not, but I have yet to discover any comparisons if there are any.

Swatches | Sugarpill Heart Breaker and Burning Heart Palettes

At IMATS, I picked up two palettes that have been on my “Must get from Sugarpill” list for a while. I got the long coveted Burning Heart palette and the recently released Heart Breaker palette which I was so ecstatic about because when I went to IMATS last year, the Burning Heart palette was sold out and I wasn’t able to get it. So it has been my mission to get my hands on it, and even online it was impossible to get because it was sold out! So phew! I can finally cross these two off my list and move on to the other items on that list.

Heart Breaker palette and the Burning Heart palette

Just look at these amazing colors. Cute right? Not only that, check out the die-cut mirror *_* swooning over the packaging and how huge these eyeshadows are. I highly doubt I’ll even hit pan on these badboys in my lifetime. But nonetheless, I can’t stop staring.

On the left we have the Heart Breaker palette which consists of four gorgeous colors that remind me of mermaids and the ocean, the reason? No clue. On the right we have the Burning Heart palette that has four amazing warm toned colors that remind me of a sunset, too pretty!

Clockwise starting from the left we have: Acidberry, Velocity, 2AM, and Mochi

L to R: Acidberry, Velocity, 2AM, and Mochi (on top of UDPP Eden)

Acidberry is a lime green color that is very vibrant and “POW!” in your face. A shade comparison I have for this is MAC’s Bitter which is a light yellow green with poor pigmention–so Acidberry takes the cake!

Velocity is a matte royal blue. This is what I wanted MAC’s Atlantic Blue to be, but failed to miserably–so again, Velocity wins that round!

2AM is a matte pinky purple, very warm based with a slight sheen. I love this! Probably my favorite out of the bunch. I don’t have any shades similar so this one is a star shining on it’s own.

Mochi is a seafoam blue color with a slight sheen. I knew I had shades similar, but this one is just so pretty! Compared to MAC’s Aquadisiac, Mochi is a touch lighter and more matte in texture. MAC’s Haunting is almost a dead on dupe except Haunting is a bit lighter.

Clockwise starting from the left we have: Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Love+, and Poison Plum

L to R: Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Love+, Poison Plum (on top of UDPP Eden)

Flamepoint is a vibrant matte orange.

Buttercupcake is a vibrant matte yellow.

Love+ a bright true primary red.

Poison Plum is a deep matte purple with a slight pearly sheen. This is just too pretty, you can’t tell from the swatch the sheen it gives off but it’s very beautiful and transfers really well when applied and blended with other shadows.

I don’t have any similar shades from the Burning Heart palette which was one of the reasons why I wanted to get my hands on it as my first shades of red, orange, and yellow.

As you can see, these colors are very vibrant and super pigmented. These colors are just with one swipe of the finger on top of Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden. I absolutely love it!

Overall, I enjoy these palettes a lot. As of late, on their website they are currently sold out of all of their palettes which retail for $34 a piece. But you can purchase the shades individually for $12. Personally I think it’s a deal when you purchase the palette because for four eyeshadows you save $14–you basically buy 3 eyeshadows and get 1 for free. Pretty awesome! AND if you go during IMATS, it’s even cheaper. The pigmentation and the quality of these babies are way beyond my expectations. I plan on purchasing more palettes that they are coming out with soon because let’s be real they are just too good!

Hope this helped you guys out in a way. Let me know if you’ve at all tried any Sugarpill products or plan to!

Drugstore Discovery: [More] Wet N Wild Megalast Nailpolishes!

I just did a recent purchase at Walgreens thinking I could catch the buy 2 get 1 free deal, but apparently I was too late! Boo. But it’s okay because for $1.99 a bottle, I couldn’t complain! I was really happy with the colors I bought not too long ago, that you have maybe seen in my previous post. So after quite a long day of midterms and never-ending classes, I knew I wanted to treat myself to some new goodies. No harm in that, right?

So I got these four bad boys! There are 16 colors total, and because I have six already, I knew I should just get colors that stood out to me the most, so here you go for your viewing pleasure!

(From L to R: Club Havana, Haze of Love, Tropicalia, Bite the Bullet)

These colors are gorgeous, and I absolutely cannot get enough of these! I have a load of untried nail polishes, but these–I put on my “priority” nail polish list to try next. It’s an obsession, quite frankly.

Drugstore Discovery: New Wet N Wild Megalast Nailpolishes

While browsing around the web, I noticed a lot of blogs posted about the new Wet N Wild products that have released within the past couple weeks. From new polishes, eyeshadows and lipsticks, they have expanded their range of color and product. I’ve always been a fan of Wet N Wild because of the affordable price tag plus the quality of their products. I haven’t been let down from the products I currently have, which I do happen to use on a day to day basis.

I headed to my nearest Walgreens (mostly because they have a bigger selection of Wet N Wild than the other drugstores around me), and went wild! I saw that not only was their nail polishes only $1.99, but it was buy 2 get 1 free! You can see why I was so ecstatic. I haven’t tried out any of the Wet N Wild nail polishes before, but from what I know they have reformulated the “megalast” line and have revamped the brush and packaging as well.

(From L to R: Wet Cement, Undercover, On a Trip, Through the Grapevine, Heatwave, I Need a Refresh-Mint)

The packaging is adorable, I love the way the bottle is shaped–it’s sleek, and different from the typical round bottle of nail polishes we often see. Since this line of WNW polishes are revamped, only a select are actual new shades. I honestly do not know for a fact which colors are “new” to the line being that they all have the “new” sticker on them–but they are new to me, so that’s all that matters! I picked out the colors I knew I did not have any similar in my collection. But like any nail polish fanatic, I did have to get the greige and mint color because those are my faves.
