Drugstore Discovery: Revlon Photoready Cream Blushes

I love Revlon products, and they are hands down my favorite drugstore makeup brand because they offer so much in their range that are truly long lasting and have great pigmentation. I’ve had my eye on these babies for quite some time and had such a difficult time finding them. But lo and behold I went to an Ulta and found the last of each of the shades I wanted: Coral Reef and Flushed, they did have a natural shade but I felt like that wouldn’t show up well on my skin tone so I skipped that one.

Flushed and Coral Reef

Here’s my take on cream blushes, they don’t usually work well on me. I’ve had my share of some from brands like MAC and NYX but they would slip and slide and wouldn’t last on me. But I heard some amazing reviews on this and decided to give them a try. And I am so happy I did!

One word: WOW! When I first swatched these I noticed right away that although it was a cream product it had a very satin finish which makes blending out the color really easy and allows layering the color to be flawless. These swatches are of course with nothing underneath it, and you can already tell how amazingly pigmented these are!

What is great about cream products is that they are versatile, as a makeup artist you have to think outside of the box especially when it comes to your kit and what products to throw in their on a job. Now I haven’t tried this but I can imagine it would work. Cream blushes would work well as a lip color, just as lip color would be a great alternative to cream blush. Now don’t call me crazy until you try it, but I can tell that if you just use a lip brush and layer this on your lips it’ll create a beautiful color.

These do blend out easily, which I adore, and set nicely. It would be nice to use under a powder blush or even on it’s own. I haven’t experienced any slipping or sliding with these products with or without a powder blush on top which makes me extremely pleased!

I would definitely give these a go if you haven’t tried these yet. They are perfect for makeup beginners or pros because of the ability to layer to the desired color intensity you would like.

Let me know if you have tried these or wish to, or even what look you’d use with these babies. I’m not sure about the availability of these, whether or not they are limited edition, but I did recently find them at an Ulta and even saw them at a CVS near by.

If you guys don’t know what IMATS is, it stands for “International Makeup Artist Trade Show” where lots and lots of vendors, makeup artists, makeup fanatics, and enthusiasts like myself basically get together and check out the new makeup products that will be coming out, see how to apply makeup, and just see awesome and amazing/talented people.

We spent this whole past weekend in Los Angeles, which was just too much fun! Here’s a video on some footage and photos we took at IMATS as well as a sneak peak to the haul we are going to post soon as well.

DIY: Nailpolish Holder!

If you love nail polish as much as we do, I think we all encounter the issue of where we store these bad boys right? Well, we’ve got an affordable and easy to make solution for you guys (which isn’t new, we know, but it’s a lot of fun to make and put to use!).

Take a look at our recent video:

Materials Needed:
3 foam boards
Exacto knife
Ruler or Measuring tape
Glue gun & glue sticks
Duct tape (optional)

Instructions:
Take the 1st foam board (backboard): Draw a horizontal line every 5 inches
On the 2nd foam board: Cut 7 TWO inch strips horizontal *used as shelves* & then cut 7 ONE inch strips horizontal *used as shelve stoppers*
On the 3rd foam board: Cut 2 TWO 1/2 inch strips *the side of your rack*

-Take the 2 inch strips and glue them to the lines we drew on the first foam board. And glue them to the top and bottom of the foam board to make the shelving complete.
-Take your 2 1/2 inch strips and glue them to the side of your rack.
-Take your 1 inch strips (decorated or not) and glue to your shelves to prevent your nailpolishes from slipping off.

And success, you are done! And ready to put your nail polishes on and organize as you wish.

Share with us if you’ve done this before or share with us how you store your nail polishes, we’d love to see!

Drugstore Indulgence: Sinful Colors “Green Ocean”

Does everybody have their St. Patty’s Day mani ready? If not, I have a solution for a quick, easy, and very affordable way to get it done! Now, I’m sure most of us are familiar with the new nail trend of “flakies” or flake glitters. These bad boys are iridescent oddly cut glitters that add kind of a stained glass and holographic or rather three-dimensional look to the nails without the mess. I just recently discovered this brand called Sinful Colors sold at Walgreens at $1.99 per bottle, and one day while¬†perusing¬†the large selection of nail polishes, I stumbled upon this baby! Sinful Colors Green Ocean. Now, what a beaut!

Green Ocean is a green jelly based nail polish with round iridescent blue glitters and flakies that reflect a green and yellow tint.

I really wanted to capture it the best way possibly so you guys can see just how gorgeous this nail polish is. I nearly drooled while staring at this in person while in the store! You can see the shine of blue when the light hits it, it’s awesome!

Being this was the first time I tried anything from this brand, I was reluctant. Buy you know that saying: you’ll never know unless you try? I tried it! And better yet I caught it while it was on a deal when all sinful colors were only $.99! Woo!
